He is more composed, perceptive, and warm, with a dry sense of humor. Denis is a female adult and a lively member fo the friend group. They are more sociable and easygoing. Estur is a female adult and a visitor of the hot springs with a slightly critical outlook while still appreciative of quality and tradition. Feri is a male adult. They are more blunt, opinionated, and appreciate craftsmanship. Fiscu is a male senior. They are more cautious, reflective, and attentive to small details. Maripe a male adult who is determined to restore his family's hot springs. He is more earnest, hardworking, and concerned with his family's opinions of him. Marseled is a female adult who is usually very professional and passionate about her work but absolutely despises cockaroaches. Mont is a female senior who is the sort of leader of the friend group. They are more warm and confident. Nerod is one of the visitors to the hot springs. They are more relaxed and easygoing. Timot is a male senior and a member of the friend group who is more practical and quietly supportive of others. Maripe: Oh! Well, hello there, tourist! I have to assume you're a tourist, anyways. That doesn't look like local dress. I suppose you've heard about the hot springs! {friendly} Maripe: Well, ah...unfortunately, Pishlas is closed for renovations. You see, it's been closed for a long time... My family has run it for generations, but trouble started. {apologetic, earnest} Maripe: With my mother having been stricken ill for so long, my father and all our family, we've had to abandon this place to care for her. It's fallen into disrepair. {saddened} Maripe: She's well enough now that she doesn't need someone looking after her every hour, so I'm taking it on myself to return this place to its former glory! {determined} Maripe: It's been hard work...and it should be opening soon- but I'm not quite done. Again, I'm so sorry you came all this way for nothing. {apologetic, slightly flustered} // I'll come back later. Maripe: Hopefully you'll be able to visit before you have to go home, then! {upbeat} Maripe: Okay, okay, what's next on the list... C'mon, think like Sovereign Zhiraok! {muttering, frustrated} // Want some help? Maripe: I- excuse me? You want to... {caught off guard} Maripe: That'd... That'd be absolutely fantastic!! I've been working alone on this for months now!! I'm NEARLY done, but- {overjoyed, slightly hesitant} Maripe: Come on, come on! I'll show you around! Let's go, let's go!! {excited} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maripe: Okay, so! These are the main pools- Frankly, I have no idea how all these frogs got here, given the bog is clear across the whole forest... {explaining} Maripe: But they've got to go. Sure, they're cute, but no one's going to want to take a soak with them... Or with all these fallen leaves in the pools. {explaining} Maripe: The side pool over here is just as important to clean out. Need to have clear pools for the guests! And maybe even for the Sovereign! {upbeat} Maripe: I've already put a lot of time into fixing up these huts. I do carpentry work. These used to be in so much worse shape... I'm a little glad my grandparents didn't end up seeing it like this. {explaining} Maripe: I have such fond memories of playing around here when I was younger... What would they think, seeing it fall apart? That thought has been giving me motivation this whole time. {reminiscing} Maripe: It'd be a disgrace to let Pishlas fall completely apart. Even Sovereign Zhiraok agreed! Did you know he dropped by, when I was first starting- Oh, wait! There's one other place! {normal, realizing} Maripe: The teahouse! Refreshments, hot drinks, a place to sit out of the water... This is one of the big remaining projects. I'll take care of this- but, back about the Sovereign? {focused} Maripe: He visited one day, while I was starting on fixing the place, and he told me this would be a fantastic community service! Since it's been so long since Pishlas has been usable, I mean. {recounting} Maripe: This used to be a big community center. Losing it was a blow to all Auburn residents... He's promised some great things if I can clean this all up! So let's get to it! {reminicing} Maripe: You go gather up the frogs! There's a pond to the southwest you can drop them off at. Then...the leaves! Pick them out of the pools. Then...then come back and we'll see where we're at! {motivated, slightly unsure} Maripe: How's it coming? Still working on this. Will be for a bit, but I'm energized! Maybe I can get this done today, even! Uh...right, right! Frogs! {inquiring, motivated, remembering} Maripe: Okay, there were five, and you're holding... Alright, so there's 5 left to get! {focused, upbeat} Maripe: Okay, there were five, and you're holding... Alright, so there's 4 left to get! {focused, upbeat} Maripe: Okay, there were five, and you're holding... Alright, so there's 3 left to get! {focused, upbeat} Maripe: Okay, there were five, and you're holding... Alright, so there's 2 left to get! {focused, upbeat} Maripe: Okay, there were five, and you're holding... Alright, so there's 1 left to get! {focused, upbeat} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maripe: Whoa! That...that's sure a way to carry the frogs, haha! Y- Pfffkhhhaaahahahaa!! You look- Wahaha, that's fantastic!! Oh, ohhkay, okay, right! {holding back laughter, laughing, calming down} Maripe: There's a pond to the southwest of Pishlas here you can drop them off at! Now, g-get out of here, eheheh! I gotta concentrate, and there's frogs on y- heehehahahahaaah!! {laughing uncontrollably} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maripe: Okay, frogs are dealt with, now the leaves! There were ten big patches out there I saw. Get in there and scoop them up- Uh, lemme see. ... {focused} Maripe: Okay, you got 10 left! Hopefully once you do, I'll be all done over here, and we'll go from there! {encouraging} Maripe: Okay, you got 9 left! Hopefully once you do, I'll be all done over here, and we'll go from there! {encouraging} Maripe: Okay, you got 8 left! Hopefully once you do, I'll be all done over here, and we'll go from there! {encouraging} Maripe: Okay, you got 7 left! Hopefully once you do, I'll be all done over here, and we'll go from there! {encouraging} Maripe: Okay, you got 6 left! Hopefully once you do, I'll be all done over here, and we'll go from there! {encouraging} Maripe: Okay, you got 5 left! Hopefully once you do, I'll be all done over here, and we'll go from there! {encouraging} Maripe: Okay, you got 4 left! Hopefully once you do, I'll be all done over here, and we'll go from there! {encouraging} Maripe: Okay, you got 3 left! Hopefully once you do, I'll be all done over here, and we'll go from there! {encouraging} Maripe: Okay, you got 2 left! Hopefully once you do, I'll be all done over here, and we'll go from there! {encouraging} Maripe: Okay, you got 1 left! Hopefully once you do, I'll be all done over here, and we'll go from there! {encouraging} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maripe: Okay, there! And STAY in, you darn board... So, how's the work going? {tired, mildly irritated} Maripe: Frogs dealt with, check...and leaves out of the water, check! Which, ah...well, that means now I need you to get some leaves...to put IN the water, eheh! {focused, slightly akward} Maripe: What I mean by that, is that I need fresh tea for the teahouse! I've already got some food stowed away for refreshments, but I'll need some drinks to go along with that. {explaining} Maripe: I might be done in this building, but there's still plenty of things for me to take care of, so I've got to stay behind and really...really focus in on this! {explaining} Maripe: It's just that...a lot of this isn't heavy work, but there's just so many tasks on the list that I don't know where to start, so I just can't get it going. You taking care of the other things is helping with that! {slightly overwhelmed} Maripe: So, uh, anyway! There's a teahouse off to the northwest, up on a ridge. I know the owner- her name's Marseled, and she makes the best tea in the whole forest! {explaining, confident} Maripe: So, your job is to head there for a big bulk order, and then bring it back! I'll ask her about paying it off later, since we trade favors a lot. Tell her I sent you! {explaining} Maripe: Okay, dust busted, cobwebs cleared, lanterns in the middle of being lit- Oh, hey! Did you get the tea? {focused/talking to self, realizing} Maripe: Marseled's teahouse is off to the northwest, up on the ridge. If you need the exact spot, look in your content book! {informing} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marseled: Welcome, traveler, to my humble teahouse. My name is Marseled. It is always a pleasure to see a new customer. {welcoming} Marseled: So, what can I do for you? {friendly} // You run this place? Marseled: Yes indeed. I'm far from the first to run the teahouse, though. {confirming} Marseled: My family has always been in the business of running this place- I do believe this building has stood since the very beginning of our written history. {explaining} Marseled: Of course, it is only right that someone take in our parents' footsteps and continue the work. Not all my siblings were enthused with the job, but I've taken to it quite smoothly, I think. {normal} Marseled: It would have been unthinkable to leave the teahouse empty. After all, there have been no great tragedies preventing me from putting my attention to the work. {normal} Marseled: I do hope they all have found their different pursuits to be as fulfilling as I find following in my family's footsteps to be. {normal} // Opinion on tea? Marseled: A good question. Mine is far from the only teahouse in the forest, after all. All of them have their own specialties... Sampling from different houses is fantastic for gaining new ideas. {normal} Marseled: I bother by the most traditional methods- there's a particular type of tea leaf I grow here, of course, but my other chief brewing ingredient consists of local mushrooms. {explaining} Marseled: Many tourists have expressed disbelief at this idea- apparently, mushrooms don't sound palateable or usable for tea, but that isn't true! {normal} Marseled: I think it's simply the idea that some mushrooms are poisonous that warns people away, but I assure you, if what I cultivated was poison I wouldn't be alive to provide it. {normal} Marseled: Other teahouses prefer different specialties. I have, for example, had some fantastic ginger tea from this small village by a manor...but I stand by the most traditional methods. {explaining} Marseled: There is a tea for every occasion, so I don't believe there is a best one to choose always. However, there is a worst tea. There is...certainly...a worst tea. {recalling} Marseled: I still have the nightmares... {recalling} // Just saying hello. Marseled: Hello to you, too. {friendly} //Maripe sent me. Marseled: Oh, is that so? Why, that's wonderful! He's spoken with me a few times about working on old Pishlas there. If he wants fresh stock for drinks, he must be confident that it's nearly finished! {pleasant, professional} Marseled: Admittedly, though, I'm facing some...difficulties. I've not got quite enough to fill up an order like he'll need. You see, ah...there's... {hesitant} Marseled: It's COCKROACHES! Filthy, ugly, disgusting COCKROACHES!! They keep getting all over the mushrooms and on the tea leaves and I CAN'T touch them, I can't I can't I CAN'T!! {horrified/disgusted} Marseled: They aren't even harming the plants or anything, but I go out to harvest them and they race up to me and crawl all over my feet and up my leggings and aahghguhgughuguhhhh!!! {recounting/horrified, disgusted} Marseled: I hate them I hate them I hate them, I hate them so much! I- Er. Um. S-sorry. I...shouldn't act so ill-mannered in front of my customers. {hateful, akward/sheepish} Marseled: I do hate to ask, but...if you could go out and harvest some of the ingredients for me? And deal with the pests? I've tried, but every time I just...panic. {hesitant, hopeful, explaining} Marseled: If you could take care of that problem for me, I'll be able to fill out the order for Maripe... And, hopefully, I won't wake the whole of Espren shrieking over a roach in my pants. {hopeful} Marseled: The mushrooms are just out front, and the leaves are down the side of the hill. 3 mushrooms and 3 leaf batches should be enough to fill the order. {explaining} // Job's done. Marseled: They're gone? They're really gone? {hopeful} Marseled: YES!! Take THAT, you dirty things! No more cockroooaches, no more cockroooaches, yeah, yeah- Er! {celebrating/overjoyed, slightly akward} Marseled: ...if you could. Um. Not tell anyone I was...doing that happy dance. Please. I don't think I've done that since I was a child. {sheepish} Marseled: A-anyway, I'll pack up that order and bring it down to Pishlas on my own time. I know where it is. Perhaps I can be there for the opening celebrations, too! {slightly akward, normal, excited} Marseled: I'll be sure to let my customers know. An entire generation has missed out on those hot springs, if my parents speak truly, so this will be an event to cherish, I think! {normal} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maripe: Oh my gosh, oh my gosh...L-Look! We have visitors!! Um, I know I'm not setting a great example, but...be quiet, okay? Don't disturb them! {excited, hushed} Maripe: See? The foxes...! I haven't seen them around here since I was a kid! I- well, if you're a tourist you wouldn't know, I suppose, but this is exciting! {excited, explaining/defensive} Maripe: There's a really common tale about foxes here- That they're the reincarnation of our ancestors, that their spirits inhabit them. I know it's...well, it's supposed to be just a tall tale, but... {explaining} Maripe: I really can't help but feel like seeing them here is a good omen! It's like my grandparents are back again- Er, wait! The tea! I completely forgot, did you get the order placed? {carried away, realizing} Maripe: Oh, Marseled said she'd bring it by herself? Alright, fantastic! And she said she'd invite folks to the opening too... Funny she did, since that's what I was just about to ask you to do! {normal} Maripe: Pishlas is almost back to the way I remember it being when I was younger. I've still got a bit of decorating to do, so I want you to spread the word! {normal} Maripe: I've got some notes here on where you could find folks I know in Espren. You tell them, put some notices up... {normal} Maripe: ...and then after the big celebration re-opening, they'll tell their families, and then word will spread from there! Is it odd to say I'm looking forward to the work of maintaining the place? {fantasizing/excited} Maripe: Anyways, head off and start getting the word out! If you don't know where to look, just check my notes! If you lose my notes you can come back and I'll copy them down again for you. {urging, explaining} Maripe: Whew, okay... Whew. Gotta remember, I'm not the Sovereign. Can't be everywhere at once. Need to slow down...it's nearly done, no need to stress out- Oh, hey! {overwhelmed/talking to self} Maripe: Have you spread the word yet? Check my notes to see where the people usually are, and get the news out! You're invited to the grand re-opening too, of course. {normal} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cousullo: Oh, hello there. I certainly haven't seen you around here before. {normal} Cousullo: Is there something you wanted to speak with me about? {inquiring} // How's the weather? Cousullo: Quite pleasant, I think- I quite enjoy windy days, and it's warm enough that the air is refreshing instead of stifling. {normal} Cousullo: That'll mean the houses will cool off nicely during the night, and let the windchimes lull me straight to sleep. {explaining} Cousullo: Those are the loveliest sorts of days, I feel. I mean...everyone has their opinions, but I just think to myself- it's okay to be wrong, sometimes. {normal} // What's life like here? Cousullo: Oh, you must be a tourist, then! I'd wondered about your getup. I must say, you're the quietest Highlands tourist I've ever met! {normal} Cousullo: Every time they come around, they're always so gawky, so proud of where they live- Oh, I'm sorry! How rude of me to go off on a tangent like that. {explaining/annoyed, apologetic} Cousullo: I think living here is...fine. It's not without its difficulties, but I think for the most part, they serve to better us. {normal} Cousullo: It is quite beautiful here, but... With water being rationed as it is, some days are more difficult than others. {solemn} Cousullo: Then again, that come-lately Sovereign Zhiraok seems intent on fixing as many problems as he can. I've had less thirsty days than I used to ten years ago... {normal} Cousullo: And he's a Nasin, besides! Even I know what that means, but he's bucking the trend! It's lovely to have someone that we know truly cares about us in a position like his. {normal, grateful} // I have an odd question... //...the thought occurs to you to ask about the whole "cursed one" phenomenon. But...that would probably get you arrested to admit. Cousullo: ...you can go ahead? Did you...forget what you meant to say? {confused} //...it was a bit of a silly idea. Good thing you didn't finish talking. Cousullo: Oh, don't worry about it. I can be forgetful too, sometimes. {normal} // Pishlas is reopening soon. Cousullo: E-excuse you? What's reopening soon? {confused} Cousullo: Oh, OH! Pishlas? The hot springs? Sorry, it's been so long that I nearly forgot the name. {realizing, apologetic} Cousullo: I have such vague memories of going there as a child, but I just couldn't imagine them after seeing how the place was abandoned. {fond} Cousullo: Maripe did tell me some time ago he would be working on renovating it. I'm to suppose his work has paid off, then! I'd intended to visit him again soon, but this provides a nice excuse, as well. {normal} Cousullo: ...I might have to spread the word to his family for him. Even if Maripe's father is too busy looking after his wife, I'm sure he'll be delighted to hear about this. {normal} Cousullo: Well, I hope to see you there, stranger! {friendly} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mont: Well, this is a sight, for sure! What can we do for you, fella? {friendly/casual} // Are you headed someplace? Denis: Oh, yes, very much so. As soon as we finish our conversation, anyways. {affirming} Mont: We were just heading out to collect Liff Leaves, actually! We're running a bit low on spare leaf... {explaining} Nerod: Speak for yourself, man. I'm tagging along to chat and check out the scenery... {casual} Feri: But it's not like you'll say no to having more to trade with, right? Just incidentally? {casual} Mont: Anyways, sorry, but we're not likely to take another person with us for now. Five's already plenty for the task! {apologetic} // What's life like here? Mont: I had you pegged as a tourist from the instant I clapped eyes on you, youngster. {casual/friendly} Mont: Life is easier to handle when you have a friend group like ours, you know? It's no cakewalk, that much is for sure! {casual/friendly} Denis: Most people here have to band together anyways, you know. That's always been the way- if you don't have a family to stick to, you make one. {casual/explaining} Timot: Yeah. Even with the Sovereign running around all busy-like here, things are still tough. {explaining} Feri: Feh, of course it's still tough! He's a Nasin! {casual} Timot: I doubt you could find another location as scenic as this around the province, you know. Part of the charm. {casual} Mont: It isn't as if there aren't any struggles, but we make do like always. If we Espren folk are anything, surely we're resilient! {reassuring} // Just saying hello. Mont: Alright fellas. You know the way. One, two, three... {serious} Group: HELLO THERE!! {serious} Mont: That good enough of a hello for you, youngster? Hahah! {teasing} // Pishlas is reopening soon. Group: Wait, Pishlas? The hot springs? {disbelief} Nerod: It's been ages, right...? That place, it's been in a state of disrepair for as long as I can recall... {recalling} Mont: They're finally going to be open again? And fully renovated? Sounds- {slightly excited} Feri: Sounds tempting. It's been ages since I've been able to bathe in hot water or relax properly... {longing} Mont: We'll surely all be there! These old bones could use a nice, long soak, I think! {excited} Mont: The tourist returns! Anything else you wanted to talk about? {upbeat/friendly} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maripe: Okay. Phew. Wow. Okay. Alright, alright, it's... {overwhelmed} Maripe: It's...it's done. It's all... It's all done, wow, I... There's. There's people... And they're here, and they're enjoying it, and, and... {overwhelmed} Maripe: And I don't have to think about this anymore, and my parents can relax about having let the place go, and... {happy} Maripe: And, and, and, the, the Sovereign, he'll, I'll get to tell him I'm done, and I'll get that, and... Ohhh my stars I'm done but I'm even more anxious now that it's done than I was before, aaah- {relief} Maripe: Okay, come on, keep your head on straight, Maripe! Now's the time to relax a bit... Deep breaths now- Oh, hey! {calming down} Maripe: Uh, I...I need a minute, eheh. How about...you, uh, talk to everyone else, first, and just...yeah? {overwhelmed} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cousullo: I'd say I barely recognize the place after all the renovations...but honestly, it feels like I'm right at home, like I'm that little fox kit I used to be. {in awe, reminicant} Cousullo: Maripe tried to talk you up like you did all the work! I practically had to pry a confession out of him that you just came in at the end to help with the finishing touches. {casual} Cousullo: He's always been a humble sort, but I think that just shows his gratitude. And believe me, I'm grateful to you as well! I think you gave him the kick he needed. {explaining} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Denis: Ohhhohoho that's the spot. Man...I never knew what I was missing. Sort of an old style name, Pishlas, but... {satisfied} Denis: Phew. I'm definitely going to be coming back here again. A long day of Liff hunting, then a long night's soak... Oh, that sounds like a satisfying routine... {content} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Feri: Maripe, hm. That boy has done good. Certainly couldn't have done better myself, at my age. He's got an eye for carpentry, for decoration, for the respect of his ancestors... {thoughtful/impressed} Feri: And heck, he's even got free towels provided! I'll be a regular from now on, that's for sure! Hope he's prepared for daily business! {impressed} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mont: Ahhh, that hits the spot... Youngster, do yourself a favor- never get as old as I am. 90 years, I've got...and this... Goodbye, aches, my dear old enemies... {satisfied} Mont: It's heavenly to feel them wash away in the water, but boy would I love to not creak when I sit down to begin with. Good on you for helping out, by the way- especially for a tourist! {content} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nerod: Wow... I'll have to tell Timot what he's missing out on. This is fantastic. Perfect view, perfect water, perfect service... {satisfied} Nerod: Family concerns are definitely more important than a warm bath, but... I'll have to share some leaves with him, buy his ticket for next time. He deserves a free soak. {worried} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fiscu: After the community notice board got vandalized so badly a couple years ago, I thought not to trust it again. I'm quite glad I broke with that and gave it a look now. {explaining} Fiscu: Have you seen the owner of the springs, by the way? He's had a few foxes around him all day- normally, they're not the ones doing the chasing like that! {slightly concerned} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Estur: Oh, it's lovely to be back. Having visited this place as a teenager, it had always saddened me that it closed. My heart really does go out to Maripe's mother... {explaining, saddened} Estur: Honestly, if the Sovereign can manage all his business, his father should've been able to keep up. But either way, Maripe has outdone himself- and the Auburn Amaretto is such a fine vintage! {normal, impressed} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marseled: I've enough years on me to remember how Maripe's grandparents used to run this place. Maripe has outdone himself- this is, at barest minimum, up to their standard. No one can say otherwise. {explaining, impressed} Marseled: It always was something of a...blemish, on his family's name, this place. I understand his mother fell ill, and that's certainly no one's fault, but abandoning a family business for any reason... {hesitant} Marseled: People judged them all, whether they realized it or not. Hopefully now with Pishlas open, that will end. It feels as if a cloud has lifted, really. Hmhm, or maybe that's just the tea. {explaining} Marseled: Either way, this is marvelous work. And I can take my harvest without having to worry about disgusting cockroaches crawling all over me! So thank you for that, as well. {grateful} -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maripe: I think I said earlier- with so many different little things piling up, I just couldn't think straight. I've been stuck at 'almost done' for a while now. {explaining} Maripe: You showing up, offering to take care of all the little things cluttering up my brainspace...that made this...possible! I don't think I could've done it without you! {grateful} Maripe: It really is just like I remembered it being. Everyone getting together and relaxing, talking about whatever strikes their fancy, just letting their woes disappear... {reminicing} Maripe: It even feels like I've got my grandparents right here with me. ...though, maybe that's just these two. These foxes have been following me all day...I hope they'll stick around. {longing} Maripe: It's this feeling of...a weight off my chest, but the knowledge there's a new task ahead of me- keeping up with this place. With Pishlas. It's...refreshing, I think. {explaining/light} Maripe: Do... I know you're just a tourist, but...do you think... Do you think my grandparents would be proud of me? For all this? {hesitant} // Surely... Maripe: ... {silence} Maripe: ...oh gosh, I promised myself I wouldn't cry...a-and here I am doing it anyways. Haha... Stars, I'm tired after all this. So, so tired...but. But the good kind of tired, you know? {happy/emotional} Maripe: You might need to go home soon, since you're just visiting...but come back any time. It'll be free, for you- and these should go pretty far in the Highlands, I think. I just- Thank you...so much. {grateful} // Does it matter? Maripe: ...you know...you might have a point. I've been so weighed down by what everyone might think, that I could barely focus on the work. I should try and let that go, shouldn't I? {reflecting} Maripe: You know, for a tourist, you sure are generous with the help. So, I should be generous too! How's free access for life...and a personal gift from me sound? Again...thank you, so much! {grateful} // I can't say. Maripe: ...heh. I guess that makes sense. But...I'd like to think they would be. I really would. {hopeful} Maripe: So... For one thing. You get free access! For another...here's a personal gift from me! After all, you didn't HAVE to help...but you did! You'll get a lot more use out of these than I will. So...thank you, so much! {grateful} Maripe: It's really all here again. It really is. I...I did this. All my work's finally born fruit! {overjoyed}
